In the Shadows of City Hall: Architecture, Power, and Capital in Penn Square
By:
Jessica Connor, M.Ed.
Standing at 548 ft (167m), Philadelphia’s City Hall is the largest free-standing masonry building in the world, and the largest city hall in the United States. Since its completion in 1901, City Hall has been an integral part of Philadelphia’s social, political, and financial landscapes. Although City Hall is a building full of history, this tour highlights people, buildings, and events whose impact is amplified by their proximity to City Hall.
